Top 10 DOs and DON’Ts of Skin Care

Top 10 “DOs” of Skin Care

  1. DO follow our www.BeautifiedYou.com rules to Renew, Replenish, and Rejuvenate your skin.
  2. DO wash your face daily with a non-soap cleanser designed to remove impurities and excess oil without stripping the skin of its natural protective barrier. Even better, use a cleanser with glycolic acid to help gently exfoliate.
  3. DO moisturize your skin, especially if you have dry skin. Dry skin encourages excess sebum (oil) production and can cause acne.
  4. DO wear protective sunscreen when going out, even on cloudy days, and always remember to reapply regularly. Use a sunscreen/sunblock with broad-spectrum protection, both UVA & UVB, and preferably one with zinc oxide as one of the main active ingredients.
  5. DO use an eye cream on a daily basis to maintain a youthful appearance. Remember, the eyes are one of the first areas of the face to show early signs of aging.
  6. DO get a facial, on a regular basis. A daily “mini-facial” with a Clarisonic Skin Care Brush and your favorite cleanser is a perfect alternative to expensive salon treatments!
  7. DO try to use mineral-based makeup products. Not only are they good for your skin, they provide long-term benefits as well.
  8. DO change your bedsheets and pillowcases regularly. Even your own skin cells, oils and bacteria may cause breakouts.
  9. DO try to use the right tools for the job. Choose facial brushes that feel gentle to the skin and help complete the job without wasting product and/or making a big mess.
  10. DO eat right and drink plenty of water, exercise often, and also get plenty of rest. Your skin is a physical manifestation of your overall health, so healthy-looking skin often means a healthier you.

Top 10 “DON‘Ts” of Skin Care

  1. DON‘T forget to cleanse your skin regularly, but no more than twice a day. Cleansing the skin helps remove bacteria, dirt, and excess oil that can cause acne flare-ups.
  2. DON‘T pop pimples when you experience breakouts. Doing so can cause the offending bacteria to spread further, aggravate the condition, and also cause your skin to develop pigmentation or acne scarring.
  3. DON‘T use harsh exfoliating facial scrubs, scrub too aggressively, or scrub too often. Doing so can damage sensitive facial skin. Gentle to mild exfoliation twice a week is the recommended approach.
  4. DON‘T hop into bed with a full face of make-up. Cleanse your face thoroughly to get rid of dirt and bacteria that’s been collected throughout the day before falling asleep in your comfortable bed.
  5. DON‘T overlook the eyes and lips. The tissue around the eyes is particularly delicate and requires special atention. The lips require moisture and protection with an SPF-containing product.
  6. DON‘T over-moisturize your skin. Applying a large amount of moisturizing lotion/cream to your face on a dry day may help a little but the correct approach is the application of just the right amount of product on a regular basis.
  7. DON‘T make the mistake of applying a number of different products simultaneously. Some of the ingredients may negatively interact with one another, so be sure to check with your skin care professional prior to using any products.
  8. DON‘T use a cream-based sun protection products if you have oily skin. Try a powder-based sunblock such as Colorescience’s Sunforgettable products.
  9. DON‘T use cheap makeups which may contain harmful fillers such as parabens that may cause your skin more harm than good over the long term.
  10. DON‘T forget to always, always, always Renew, Replenish, and Rejuvenate your skin.
